The old city of Patna during the Maurya era was known as Pataliputra and was the capital of the Empire of Magadha. The city of Patna is today Bihar 's capital and largest city on the southern bank of the Ganges and home to a variety of tourist atmospheres as well as Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Islamic and Jain pilgrimage centres. The nearby tourist attractions of Vaishali, Rajgir, Nalanda, Bodh Gaya and Pawapuri include Patna City, Kumhrar, Kargil Chowk War Memorial, Shitla Mata Temple, Sher Shah Suri Masjid, Biscomaun Bhawan, Gurdwara Gobind Ghat, Chiriyatund Flyover, Bhootnath Road TV Towerand Mahatma Gandhi Setu, are also close to the historical tourist attractions of Patna City.


The Golghar or Gol Ghar is a Stupa- style granary offering a splendid panorama of the town and river Ganges. The highest building in Patna on the west Gandhi Maidan was in Golghar or Round House.

Agam Kuan

The Agam Kuan is the oldest and most important archeological site in Patna. In addition to the temple Shitala Devi, there are several ancient and medieval sculptures in the complex. The most quaint monument in Patna and well- known for its two major relics was Agam Kuan.

Patan Devi

Maa Patneshwari Devi Temple was one of Patna 's oldest and most sacred temples, and one of India's 51 Siddha Shakti Pithas. In Patnas area of Chowk and in the most holy holy shrine for Hindus are the temples Bari Patan Devi and Chhoti Patan Devi.

Patna Museum

The Jadu Ghar Patna Museum is a Mughal style architectural Rajput building and served as the Bihar State Museum. Archeological artifacts, art items, paintings, coins and textiles are part of the Museum.

Mahavir Mandir

The Mahavir Mandir is one of Lord Hanuman 's most famous Hindu temples and is located in front of the junction with Patna and the second largest religious shrine in northern India. Mahavir Mandir provides online services for the deity's live darshan.

Gandhi Maidan

A historic Patna Lawns or Gandhi Maidan site near the banks of the Ganges River, with the highest statue in the world, a 70-ft high bronze statue and a Kargil Chowk War Memorial are all close by. It is the largest statue in the world and the biggest one in the world.

Takht Sri Patna Sahib

The Gurdwara in Patna Sahib is one of the 5 Takhats and Holy Seats of the Sikh in India, built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh on the Ganges river bank. The 10th Guru Sri Guru Gobind SinghJI and one of the world's leading Sikh shrines are born in Takht Sri Harmandir Sahib.

Pathar ki Masjid

Pathar Ki Masjid is also widely referred to as the Saif Khan mosque and is the oldest mosque in the municipality of Patna. The Masjid is on the bank of the Ganges river near the Saheb River.

Buddha Smriti Park

His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, located on Frazer Road close to Patna Junction, opened the Buddha Smriti Park, also known as a Buddha Memorial Park. The park's main attraction are the high Stupa, Museum, Meditation center and Bodhi holy trees.

Kamaldah Jain Temple

The old temple Jain is situated near the railway station Gulzarbagh and the oldest complex of jain in Patna. The BBC documentary on India The story of India by Michael Wood featured Kamaldah Jain Temple complex.

Padri Ki Haveli

The St Mary 's Church is also a famous religious spot in Patna and is the oldest of the churches in Bihar. The church is known as St Mary 's Church. The big cathedral bell and its beautiful architecture are the main attraction of the church.

Patna Planetarium

The Indira Gandhi Planetarium is one of Asia's largest planetariums and attracts many domestic and foreign visitors. One of the popular attractions in town on Bailey Road is the Patna Planetarium, commonly referred to as Taramandal.

Patna Zoo

Sanjay Gandhi Jaivik Udyan also known as Sanjay Gandhi Botanical and Zoological Garden or simply Patna Zoo is one of the most frequented picnic spot in Patna. The zoo is home to Indians aniamls including tiger, leopard, clouded leopard and African aniamls hippopotamus, giraffe and zebra.

Funtasia Water Park

Funtasia Water park is Bihar 's first water park, a water and entertainment park on the New Bypass street in Patna. Water slides, wave pool, swimming pools and a place for the celebrations of La Tomatina Holi are attractions in Funtasia Island Water park.

Srikrishna Science Centre

One of Patna 's most popular places to see is Srikrishna Science Centre, with Science Park, Jurassic Park,3D Show, Mirros Image, Fun Science Gallery and great Indian Scientists being the major sights in the center of the town.
